The world is in a debt crisis. In 2025, the global year of Jubilee, it’s time to make it right.
From October 12 to November 10, groups across Canada, the USA and beyond are participating in Proclaim Jubilee!, a series of actions to call for an end to the global debt crisis.
At our Proclaim Jubilee! events, we will reflect, pray, sound a horn and invite others to sign the global Jubilee petition, calling on the world’s governments to enact deep and lasting change to the global economic system.
Join us by holding a Proclaim Jubilee! event in your own community. Here’s how to participate:
Step one: start with a prayer or a reflection on the meaning of Jubilee, such as Pope Francis’s Jubilee proclamation or stories about past Jubilee year campaigns.
Step two: offer a few brief examples on the impacts of sovereign debt worldwide
Step three: hold a moment of silence to honor the suffering of those trapped in poverty by debt
Step four: sound a horn – this can be a shofar, trumpet, bugle, air horn, or any other creative symbol of jubilee – Download a Shofar
Step five: invite participants and observers to sign the Canadian Jubilee petition and take other actions
Step six: share photos and recordings of the event here and post on social media under the hashtag #ProclaimJubilee!2025 #TurnDebtIntoHope
