The Climate Virus: Lessons from COVID-19 Towards Urgent Climate Action in Canada
Throughout the month of March, Citizens for Public Justice has been running our annual Give it up for the Earth! campaign. This is a Lenten campaign put together by CPJ and For the Love of Creation, through which we acknowledge our current climate crisis and seek urgent solutions. Recently, as a special part of our 2024 campaign, we presented the Climate Virus Workshop led by Julia Sterling.
Together, we unpacked insights from leading environmental organizations and collaborated in a facilitated brainstorming exercise that prompted participants to imagine what an urgent pandemic-level climate action plan could look like in Canada. Through thoughtful and deliberate facilitation techniques and artistic forms of expression, participants were guided through learning, questioning, reflecting, and sharing their thoughts and experiences through a co-writing Imaginative futures exercise.
Though the event has finished, a video recording of the webinar and access to the Padlet activity results are provided here for your viewing pleasure.

Examining the cross-crisis lessons between COVID-19 and the climate crisis can help us to gain new insights and knowledge as well as fresh inspiration and ideas to understand how our own work, communities and roles can work towards building this environmentally friendly collective future.
