Postcards from the Public: refugees and migrants are making positive impacts in our communities!

In Canada, we are proud to welcome newcomers and recognize the many ways that they contribute to our nation.

Media headlines and politicians have been unfairly scapegoating refugees and migrants for issues like the housing crisis and healthcare shortages. We reject these attempts to divide and distract us while continuing to cut funding and adequate planning for essential services that we all need.

This fall, CPJ members are telling our Members of Parliament that we are thankful for the many ways in which refugees and migrants have had a profoundly positive impact on our communities. We also want to tell our elected officials that we expect them to carry on Canada’s legacy as a welcoming nation where all people can thrive.

We all learn from diversity in our communities. Learning about someone who has had experiences different than our own widens our understanding of the world and makes us wiser decision makers about our future.
