Virtual Event – Political Discernment with the Jesuit Forum: The Question of Affordability
Using the most recent available data on poverty and inequity in Canada, as well as looking back at historic policies, CPJ’s Poverty Trends report reminds us that the experiences of poverty we see in Canada today are the result of policy choices… particularly important to be mindful of in the midst of political choices during elections, as well as in light of our social faith values.
Evidence-based solutions exist. But many of them need to be expanded to effectively and equitably tackle persistent trends in people’s experiences of poverty.
CPJ’s Socio-Economic Policy Analyst, Natalie Appleyard, joined the Jesuit Forum to help participants discerningly reflect upon the growing reality of an affordability crisis facing many Canadians: how it has risen to crisis proportions, and how we can respond with depth and discernment.
At the event, we invited participants to share their thoughts with other attendees. For a preview of what was discussed, download the discussion guide [PDF].
