Canada maintains the reputation as a global leader in refugee resettlement. However, refugee claimants – those who seek protection at our borders or from inside the country – face significant challenges upon arrival. Individuals fleeing persecution are left with inadequate housing and social support leaving them to navigate a complex and daunting system on their own.

We are calling on all faith leaders, religious organizations, and members of faith communities across the country to join this campaign! We demand the implementation of a comprehensive plan that addresses critical gaps in the reception and support of refugee claimants.

We need to better understand who is most affected by COVID-19 and who has the decision-making power. This requires an intersectional gender-based analysis.

The requirement that all arrivals to Canadian airports pay out of pocket to quarantine in a hotel clearly means that travel for resettled refugees has been brought to halt for now.

There is overwhelming evidence that we face a climate emergency. That the Government of Canada has acknowledged that emergency and committed to additional action, is worthy of celebration.

Caring professionals see the impacts of climate change first hand. Our government should invest in health care, education, and social work, to both serve the community and address climate change.
