CPJ’s Public Justice Internship Program provides a university graduate with the opportunity to explore the meaning of public justice and join us in Ottawa for a one-year paid internship. CPJ may also consider remote, virtual internships on a case-by-case basis. From September 2024 to August 2025, an intern will assist CPJ in our work on climate justice, refugee and migrant rights, poverty in Canada, or some combination of the three.
The Public Justice Intern actively engages in various work with CPJ staff, including research, policy analysis, meetings with MPs and political staff, and engagement with CPJ members, the media, and other members of civil society.

Benefits of CPJ’s Public Justice Internship:
- Direct experience with domestic, federal policy analysis and the political decision-making worlds of the federal government and nationwide advocacy movements.
- Structured learning opportunities relating to the meaning and implications of being “inspired by faith to act for justice,” how to conduct and disseminate public policy analysis, operations of a non-profit organization, and navigating Parliament Hill and federal government structures.

- Stipend of $42,500 plus benefits and vacation.
Public Justice Intern Responsibilities:
Working closely with CPJ staff, including an assigned supervisor, Public Justice Interns can expect to engage in the following types of activities:
- Researching, writing, and editing policy papers, briefs, reports, and articles.
- Drafting policy memos, fact sheets, op-eds, and letters to the editor with review from CPJ staff.
- Tracking legislation, monitoring policy debates, and media monitoring.
- Participating in and contributing to policy briefings and staff meetings, including strategic planning.
- Helping organize events, consultations, and workshops.
- Assisting in communications, outreach, and engagement with MPs, political staff, department officials, media, advocacy partners, CPJ members, and other members of civil society.
- Learning and operationalization related to CPJ’s Equity and Anti-Oppression Statement.
- General office duties as appropriate.
